The infamous Murphy’s Law is a comical principle which states that anything that can go wrong will indeed go wrong. Although meant to be taken in jest, there is a smidgen of truth behind this axiom and it is especially true when driving, sharing the road with millions of other people at a time. Even if one lives in a relatively small community and not in the cities, traffic accidents and fender benders are an everyday occurrence. Studies upon a litany of a single small town insurance policy providers show that a car accident compensation claim is filed at least once every two hours on any given day. The unfortunate part of owning and using an automobile is that Murphy’s Law also applies when on the road: if there can be an accident then chances are that there will be an accident.
One of the tested and proven ways to prevent avoidable car accidents is by following the simple, common sense rules of defensive driving. Defensive driving is more than just following the basic regulations and laws of the road, it is anticipating what other drivers will do by observing how they are driving. An example of defensive driving is if a fellow driver is moving at a slightly higher speed than the speed limit then chances are they will only signal for half a second before switching lanes. A good defensive driver will notice this behavior and keep their distance from this quick turning speedster and thus reduce the risk of winding up talking to their insurance provider about a car accident compensation claim. Although it is not possible to completely circumvent Murphy’s Law, with defensive driving techniques one can certainly reduce the chances that things will go wrong for them.
